Day 31: Women’s Health

Breast Health and Breast Cancer, Dr. Lorraine Day, Burning Bras, “All Women Need to Read This” by Tim O’Shea, D-Mannose, Bacterial Vaginosis, What You Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause

Welcome to Day 31!

Happy Continuation! We are so pleased you are continuing with the Juice Feasting Program, whether you are on a Juice Feast or just dramatically expanding and deepening your perspectives on nutrition, Life Practices, healing, and health.

Today we have for you some very important information regarding your health (and/or that of the women in your life) and the conventional medical mentality and approach to it, which is, by and large, not in the best interest of any woman short of those who own stock in the pharmaceutical companies and hospitals dispensing profitable–but often unnecessary–treatments and procedures. Please, for the benefit of yourself and the women in your life, carefully consider the information in this file, and follow up with purchasing the books: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause and What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause by Dr. John R. Lee, M.D.

Your nutrition information today contains knowledge that most Americans do not have:

Our main causes of cancer are dietary factors, not genetics

Moreover, cancer rates are far lower in societies that eat a predominantly plant-based diet. We understand and have massive amounts of hard data on this now, in large part thanks to the work of T. Colin Campbell and his China Study team during their 27 year Oxford-Cornell study of diet, nutrition, and health world-wide sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society.

In the files for you today, you will see that we have chosen this chapter from The China Study because Campbell lays out the problems and their causes so very well. First, let’s recall what the western diet looks like in terms of meat, dairy, and fat consumption, and then with that in mind, look at the cross-cultural data on breast, prostate, and colon cancer vs the dietary factors of meat and dairy consumption.

Meat-Consumption-1950-2000.jpg

We eat a lot of meat in the U.S.: 57 lbs more now per capita than our previously high levels in the 1950s.As you will see in the graphs below, U.S. consumption of animal protein is higher than much of the world.

DAIRY CONSUMPTION

We rank as big dairy consumers, too.

Who-Drinks-Milk-UPD.jpg

TOTAL FAT CONSUMPTION

Fat-Consumption-US-1950-20001.jpg

So, what does a society that eats a lot of meat, dairy, and fat get? Let’s take a look at the cross-cultural data.

BREAST AND PROSTATE CANCER

The two charts below are out of The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, PhD.

Breast-Cancer-Fat-China-Study-84.jpg
Breast-Cancer-Animal-Fat-China-Study-851.jpg

Notice that the countries with low rates of animal fat intake have low rates of breast cancer?

HORMONES AND BREAST CANCER

Also at work here is the role of too much hormone exposure over a woman’s lifetime. Again, from The China Study, we see a chart that lays out the risk factors for breast cancer:

Breast-Cancer-Risk-Factors.jpg

A diet high in animal foods increases female hormone exposure. One of the big sources of hormones is dairy, which is loaded with hormones and growth factors to help baby calves grow hundreds and hundreds of pounds in their first year of life. We gain a fraction of that in 20 years! Here is a chart comparing hormone exposures of a plant vs. an animal-based diet:

Hormone-Exposure-Animal-vs-Plant-Based-Diet-2.jpg

Eating an animal-based diet puts you at a much greater risk for breast cancer, no doubt. Now, this is not just affecting adults. We are seeing the effects of too many hormones and growth factors from feeding cow’s milk to children, as measured by the age of menarche (the first period) of our young women:

Menarche-Trends-Worldwide.jpg

The U.S. is there in red, and all countries listed above are big-time dairy eaters, with high rates of breast cancer. For more detailed information on breast cancer, consult the file we have put together for you.

Next year for breast cancer awareness day, wear a GREEN RIBBON instead of a pink one.

COLON CANCER

This one is unnecessary, too. You are eliminating your chances of developing colon cancer by cleaning out your colon on this Juice Feast, by not developing constipation by virtue of eating a plant-based diet, and by reducing the growth factors from meat and dairy that would otherwise promote colon cancer growth. Just to illustrate, here are two charts for you:

Good Reasons to Burn the Bra!

“A group of researchers in Japan published their studies showing that wearing a girdle and bra lowers the levels of the hormone melatonin by 60 percent!”

1991 Researchers at Harvard University publish a medical journal article on breast cancer risk. As a side issue of their paper, they mention that the women in their study that did not wear bras had a 60% lower rate of breast cancer than the women who wore bras. (Hsieh, C.C. and D. Trichopoulos, D. Eur. J. Cancer 27:131-5, 1991 “Breast size, handedness and breast cancer risk”)

1991 Researchers in Japan pubished a study on bras and sagging, in which they proved that a bra can actually increase breast sagging, rather than the opposite. This effect was most noticeable in larger breasted women. They compared bras to foot binding in their discussion section. (“Breast Form Changes Resulting From A Certain Brassiere” Journal of Hum. Ergol.(Tokyo) 1990 Jun; 19(1):53-62. Ashizawa K, Sugane A, Gunji T Institute of Human Living Sciences, Otsuma Women’s University, Tokyo, Japan)

Burning-Bra-300x200.jpg

1995 Sydney Singer and Soma Grismaijer of the Institute for the Study of Culturogenic Disease published their book, “Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras,” (Avery Press). Their study included almost 4600 women, half of whom had breast cancer and half of whom did not. They found that the more hours per day that a bra is worn, the higher the rate of breast cancer and that women who do not wear bras have a dramatically reduced rate of breast cancer. (Singer and Grismaijer have a website at: http://www.selfstudycenter.org

1995 through the present. Many women, who had concerns about breast cancer risk and/or breast pain, quit wearing bras and then found that their pain and cysts of fibrocystic breast disease was dramatically decreased or eliminated. Several of these women wrote their own personal case histories, which appear on the web at: http://www.all-natural.com/fibrocys.html

2000. A group of researchers in Japan published their studies showing that wearing a girdle and bra lowers the levels of the hormone melatonin by 60 percent. (Chronobiol Int 2000 Nov;17(6):783-93 “The effects of skin pressure by clothing on circadian rhythms of core temperature and salivary melatonin.” Lee YA, Hyun KJ, Tokura H, Department of Environmental Health, Nara Women’s University, Japan.) Melatonin is intimately involved with sleep cycles and is used to prevent jet-lag. Numerous published studies have suggested that melatonin has anti-cancer activities, that it is an antioxidant and can prevent DNA damage, and that it is intimately involved in the immune system and can bind directly to T helper cells. Researchers in Spain have published an article outlining the possible use of melatonin in breast cancer prevention and treatment (Histol Histopathol 2000 Apr;15(2):637-47). Recent research (J. Hansen, “Light at Night, Shiftwork, and Breast Cancer Risk” J Natl Cancer Inst 2001; 93: 1513-1515) has shown that nighttime exposure to light is associated with increased rates of breast cancer. This build upon previous research that showed that light at night suppresses melatonin production.

When the Body Says NO: The Hidden Cost of Stress by Dr. Gabor Mate

When the Body Says No is one of the most significant pieces of writing I have ever seen that documents with clinical data the types of mental and emotional states and ways of being that encourage cancer development. Dr. Gabor Mate has done a significant service to all of us by writing When The Body Says No. I HIGHLY recommend getting this book, even if you just read sections of it to share with friends and family. The bottom line: cancer rates are GREATLY increased among those who repress genuine emotions, overhelp others to the detriment of their own health, or otherwise let life roll over them with soft acceptance. If you don’t want to develop cancer, or want to heal it, it is time to get really real about who you are and what you are here to do in this life, without holding back – particularly when it comes to how you feel about life experiences.

A Very Important File: All Women Need to Read This by Tim O’Shea

This is one of the best pieces of writing on women’s health you will encounter.

File contents include: Female Hormones – Natural Estrogen – Phytoestrogens – What is Menopause? – Fake Estrogens – Adult Life in a Sea of Estrogen – Progesterone – Aging and Youth – American Females Don’t Ovulate – The Premarin Scam – The Real Dangers of The Pill – Cancer and Estrogen – Osteoporosis and Estrogen – Heart Disease and Estrogen – The Calcium Hoax – Birth Control Pills – Coffee and Death – Chronic Fatigue and Estrogen – Natural Solutions – The Thyroid Hoax.

Tim O’Shea writes about the overuse of pharmaceuticals for women, “Drug hoax phenomena are not new. The same thing happened in the Boer War (Hadwen), in the Philippines in 1905 (Hume, 200), and in Desert Storm. Mass administration of drugs that killed many more people than they saved. The difference here is that today the control of information has become much more sophisticated, the focus being trust your doctor, trust your doctor – you really don’t have to understand the details. The target is the 30 million menopausal American women, and the game is the $1 billion HRT industry, a vertically integrated boom market.”

Here’s the basic story. Since the 1930s, American women have been trained and bullied into thinking that a natural normal event in their life – menopause – is a disease condition requiring treatment. Let’s stop with that for a minute. If it’s a disease, how did all the millions of women throughout history up to the present time muddle through it? How do Third World women or non-HMO lifestyles survive the ordeal? Keep those two questions in mind when you read anything mainstream, either advertising or articles.

The “new” “medical condition” requires drug therapy, which coincidentally has just recently been “discovered”: synthetic estrogen – hormone replacement therapy. Does it work? Are women better off now? Does it really prevent osteoporosis? For this and much, much more essential information on women’s health, see the file below!

Helpful Information: D-Mannose for Urinary Tract Infections

I discovered D-Mannose while coaching a client many years ago who came into her Juice Feast with a Urinary Tract Infection. Through my research, I discovered D-Mannose from Dr. Joseph Mercola. Supports a healthy urinary tract · Is 10- 50 times stronger than cranberry! · Produces rapid action in as little as 24-48 hours · Does not kill friendly bacteria · Is safe for long term use — neutral pH · Is 100% all natural D-Mannose and nothing else · Is the strongest natural urinary tract product available. Follow up on this if you have been having recurring UTIs, and KEEP D-MANNOSE IN YOUR BATHROOM CABINET… you never know when you may need it!

How Valuable is Cancer?

How Valuable is Cancer?

Nadine Artemis' Underarm Charms are so effective and so sensual, that the combinations have revolutionized the concept of “deodorant”.

Their friend, Alexander, observed that the Underarm Charm is more of an odorant, than a deodorant. These Poetic Pits apply the sensuality of sandalwood, the reality of roots, and the purity of petals to such sacred areas. Elegant essences of leaves, flowers, and forests perfectly accent sandalwood as the potent sorcerer of these effective deodorants. Pure, organic, undiluted sandalwood also harmonizes the endocrine system supporting the secretion of beneficial hormonal-serums. One stroke emanates everything in your aura and it is all you need until your next bath or shower. At last, a natural deodorant-odorant that adds to the vitality and beauty of your life!

Cancer is a Fungus Cover.png

cancer is a fungus

by David Rainoshek, M.A.

Based on the recent work of Dr. Tullio Simoncini, and also known by the Natural Hygienists for over 120 years (see the Seven Stages of Disease), this groundbreaking revolutionary understanding of Cancer is crucial to prevention and treatment. Candida, and its many variants are not only the cause of cancer, they are the cancer. Cancer in great part is an invasion invited by deteriorating/rotting cells of yeast and fungi colonies. The 100 year old hypothesis that has led medical science in circles, that cancer are human cells multiplying without limit, turns out to be just another unproven theory that no one has demonstrated beyond a shadow of doubt.I have placed this file in several places on the Juice Feasting Program due to its incredible importance.

Magnesium Cover.png

magnesium

by David Rainoshek, M.A.

Magnesium, the relaxer mineral, is one of the most important minerals for overall health. Magnesium is important for all muscles, heart function, and the digestive system. Magnesium deficiency is associated with a chronic stress state and decreased adrenaline function. More than 80 percent of the population is deficient in magnesium. Magnesium is very important in the treatment of all people with chronic exhaustion, adrenal exhaustion, and depression. It is very important for the optimization of neurotransmitter function.

Almost everyone in North America is deficient in magnesium. This is particularly true with people who are experiencing tension, anxiety, adrenal exhaustion, chronic fatigue, constipation, and muscle spasm. Magnesium is very good for muscle cramps and spasm, particularly when people are fasting. Magnesium activates many enzyme systems and is involved in neurotransmitter production. It helps regulate temperature control in the body It is needed for synthesis in protein. Magnesium is used by the pituitary gland as part of its regulation of parathyroid, adrenal, and thyroid function. It is a key enzymatic mineral used in almost 100 different enzyme systems in the Krebs cycle of making energy in the mitochondria of our cells.

Sauerkraut Cover.png

sauerkraut - cultured vegetables

by David Rainoshek, M.A.

Cultured Vegetables are an ESSENTIAL food for digestive/gut health, and therefore the overall health of your body. I have personally and professionally had and heard experiences of gut dysbiosis – loose stools, intestinal distress, candida-related issues… poor nutrient assimilation… that have been partially or completely turned around by eating cultured vegetables – sauerkraut. Do not underestimate the importance of these foods in any healthy dietary approach, long-term.

Raw cultured vegetables have been around for thousands of years, but we have never needed them more than we do today. Rich in lactobacilli and enzymes, alkaline-forming, and loaded with vitamins, they are an ideal food that can and should be consumed with every meal.

Since cultured vegetables are an excellent source of vitamin C, Dutch seamen used to carry them to prevent scurvy. For centuries, the Chinese have cultured cabbage each fall to ensure a source of greens through the winter (when they lacked refrigeration). Cultured vegetables are a favorite food of the long-lived Hunzas. Yogurt ads lead us to believe that eating yogurt ensures a long life, but it’s really the active cultures of friendly bacteria (lactobacilli) inside it that are responsible for good health. Similarly, the enzymes and the high lactic acid in raw cultured vegetables promote wellness and longevity.

Eating red meat nearly doubles risk of breast cancer by Jessica Fraser

Women who eat more than 1.5 servings of red meat per day are nearly twice as likely to develop hormone-related breast cancer compared to women who eat fewer than three servings per week, according to a new Harvard study. Researchers from Harvard Medical School examined records from The Nurses’ Health Study — which includes data on more than 90,000 women who were questioned on their dietary habits in 1991, 1995 and 1999 — and found that red meat consumption is linked with a higher risk of breast cancer.

Birth control pill linked to breast cancer risk by Jessica Fraser

Young women who take oral contraceptive pills before they become pregnant with their first child run a significantly higher risk of developing pre-menopausal breast cancer, according to new international research. Researchers from Altoona Hospital in Pennsylvania examined the results of 34 studies from around the world of young women who took oral contraceptives prior to becoming pregnant with their first child.

The researchers, led by Dr. Chris Kahlenborn, found that those young women experienced a 44 percent increased risk of developing pre-menopausal breast cancer, while women who took the pill for four years or longer prior to their first pregnancy ran an increased risk of 52 percent.

Breast cancer screening harms ten women for every one it helps by Jessica Fraser

Connection Between Artificial Lighting and Breast Cancer (press release) by NaturalNews

The results of a new University of Haifa study found a connection between artificial lighting and breast cancer. Women’s Health Articles from The Weston A. Price Foundation

Women’s health is an important issue these days, with shelves of bookstore space devoted to the subject. Women can certainly count it as a victory that factual discussion of reproductive disorders is now available and that the medical monolith has backed off from such inhumane measures as radical mastectomy and routine hysterectomy for minor female problems. Access to information and freedom to choose are the watchwords of American feminism. Unfortunately, with the spotlight illuminating the razzle-dazzle of vegetarianism, lifesaving facts remain in the shadows, and without those facts, women’s options remain limited.

This section is devoted to providing dietary information women need to nourish the particular requirements of their biochemistry. It will come as no surprise to our readers that our emphasis is on the nutrients provided by fats and proteins from healthy, pasture-fed animals. We will show that current research completely vindicates the findings of Weston Price, findings which stress the vital need for fat-soluble vitamins to nourish the endocrine system and the reproductive organs. We will also discuss the hidden dangers in current gynecological practices—from mammography to hormone replacement therapy.

An advice-from-the-trenches cancer survival guidebook for young women with cancer.

Actress and photographer Kris Carr thought she had a hangover, but a Jivamukti yoga class didn’t provide its usual kick-ass cure. A visit to her doctor confirmed her “liver looked like Swiss cheese,” covered with cancerous tumors. She entered trench warfare (wearing cowboy boots into the MRI machine, no less), vowing, “Cancer needed a makeover and I was just the gal to do it!” She began writing and filming her journey, documenting her interactions with friends, doctors, alternative “quacks,” blind dates, and other women with cancer–sadly a growing group. These include hip, young women such as illustrator-author Marisa Acocella Marchetto (Cancer Vixen), Glamour writer-editor Erin Zammett (My So-Called Normal Life), MTV personality Diem Brown (Real World/Road Rules Challenge), model Sharon Blynn (founder, Bald Is Beautiful), and music manager Jackie Farry, among others.

CRAZY SEXY CANCER TIPS gathers the lessons learned and advice offered from Carr’s own journey, as well as the experiences of her cancer posse. Full-color photos accompany personal stories and candid revelations in this scrapbook of advice, warnings, and resources for the cancer patient. Chapters cover your changing social life, dating, sex, and appearance; essential health tips on how to boost your immune system; recipes; medical and holistic resources; and information on young survivor support groups. The resulting book is a warm, yet informative tool for any woman newly diagnosed with the disease and for those who love them.

By Sydney Ross Singer and Soma Grismaijer

Reveals the link between bras and breast cancer, explaining in non-technical language how the restrictive nature of bras inhibits the lymphatic system and arguing that the correlation is four times greater than smoking is to lung cancer.

Singer and Grismaijer have collected striking evidence that bra-wearing may be a major risk factor associated with breast cancer: women who wear tight-fitting bras 24 hours a day are 125 times more likely to have breast cancer than women who do not wear bras at all. Their interpretation is that tight clothing inhibits the proper functioning of the lymphatic system (an internal network of vessels and nodes that flushes wastes from the body) and leads to a buildup of carcinogenic compounds in the constricted areas.

Seventy percent of breast cancer cases are unexplainable by current known risk factors. What’s left? The authors contend that strong epidemiological evidence points to bra wearing. Women who wear a bra 24 hours a day are dramatically more likely to have breast cancer.

This book should be read by anyone concerned about breast cancer. Possibly a very important book that could save many lives.

By Dr. Jane Plant, PhD.

One out of nine women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. For too long, women have erroneously believed that there is little or nothing they can do to prevent this dread illness. Our major medical efforts are directed toward detecting and treating, rather than preventing, breast cancer.

Professor Jane Plant, one of Britain’s most eminent scientists, contracted breast cancer in 1987. When orthodox medicine gave up and she was told she had only three months to live, she used her extensive scientific training and her knowledge of other cultures to find a way to survive. In her research, she was startled to find that in China breast cancer affects far fewer women than in Western countries. Plant considered there could be a dietary trigger for the illness. As Plant continued her research, she became convinced there was a casual link between consumption of dairy products and breast cancer.

In this book, Professor Plant shares the discoveries that allowed her to triumph over breast cancer. With a clear statement of the scientific principles behind her discovery, Professor Plant includes detailed suggestions, including menus and recipes, for ways to alter your diet by eliminating or reducing consumption of many suspected cancer-causing agents, especially dairy products, and replacing them with healthful alternatives.

More than 100,000 copies of this ground-breaking book are currently in print. It is used by breast cancer support groups and hospital-based oncologists in USA, Germany, New Zealand, and Canada. Why? because it offers the best of modern medicine plus level-headed information on the most effective alternative and complementary treatments for breast (and prostate) cancers.

Breast Cancer? Breast Health! is for every woman interested in taking breast health into her own hands. The first third offers easy lifestyle changes, simple herbal additions, and tasty food recommendations to reduce risk and improve immune functioning. The second third helps those with possible cancer — what to do before you call the doctor, how to explore your options — and those diagnosed with cancer — including “alternative treatments to avoid.” Separate chapters detail complementary medicines for those using surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or tamoxifen. The last third focuses on the 30 most important anti-cancer herbs, with specific instructions for preparation and use.

Down-to-earth, compassionate, and lyrical, this information-rich book includes a risk assessment survey; directory of helpful organizations; glossary; index; and many useful illustrations. Introduction by Christiane Northrup, M.D. (American edition) and Susun Love, M.D. (German edition).

I’m too Young for Menopause-So Why Do I Feel Like this? You could be experiencing unexplained weight gain…fatigue…mood swings…loss of libido…fibroids…tender or lumpy breasts…endometriosis…PMS…infertility…memory loss…migraines…very heavy or light periods…cold hands and feet…or a combination of these symptoms. You may have been told they’re “nothing,” or stress, or even menopause-and offered surgery, antidepressants, or prescription hormones.

But the startling truth is that you may be suffering from premenopause syndrome-and there are simple, safe solutions. When John Lee wrote the groundbreaking What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause, younger women started asking if natural progesterone could help them, too. In this book Dr. Lee, with women’s health expert Jesse Hanley, M.D., brings you a revolutionary nonprescription “Balance Program” to restore your gynecological health, energy, and sex drive-and even slow the aging process before menopause, and beyond.

By John R. Lee, MD

This revolutionary book about hormone replacement therapy–a classic bestseller since it was first published in 1996–is now fully revised and updated, providing potentially lifesaving facts and natural alternatives to balancing hormones.

John R. Lee, M.D., is retired from his 30-year family practice. Virginia Hopkins, M.S., is a well-known co-author of books on natural hormone balance and nutrition.

This book gives plenty of examples of ad hominem attacks, intimidation, slander, threats of litigation, deception, dishonesty, lies and other violations of good scientific practice. For some years I kept a folder labeled Dishonesty in breast cancer screening on top of my filing cabinet, storing articles and letters to the editor that contained statements I knew were dishonest. Eventually I gave up on the idea of writing a paper about this collection, as the number of examples quickly exceeded what could be contained in a single article.' From the Introduction, “The most effective way to decrease women's risk of becoming a breast cancer patient is to avoid attending screening.”

Mammography screening is one of the greatest controversies in healthcare, and the extent to which some scientists have sacrificed sound scientific principles in order to arrive at politically acceptable results in their research is extraordinary. In contrast, neutral observers increasingly find that the benefit has been much oversold and that the harms are much greater than previously believed. This groundbreaking book takes an evidence-based, critical look at the scientific disputes and the information provided to women by governments and cancer charities. It also explains why mammography screening is unlikely to be effective today. All health professionals and members of the public will find these revelations disturbingly illuminating. It will radically transform the way healthcare policy makers view mammography screening in the future.
