Day 4: The Human Digestive System

The Digestive System: Dr. Richard Anderson; Enemas, Coffee Enemas, Colonics, Probiotics

The road to health is paved with good intestines.
— Unknown

Welcome to Day 4!
 Congratulations!

You should be just about through the woods with regards to hunger pangs. Do make sure that you are starting your day with a quart of water with a lemon squeezed into it, and some MSM if you have it available. Many of my students discover during the Feast that what they used to think was hunger was actually thirst in disguise. Kudos to you for being persistent in this early stage of the Feast–if every person did what you are doing, what a healthy society we would have!

The bowel feeds every organ, every tissue, every cell in our bodies. When the bowel environment and function has become contaminated or inefficient, the cells and organs in the rest of the body will reflect that contamination and dysfunction. A toxic and acid bowel means toxic blood and lymph, toxic organs and cells, and poor health.

Cleanse and Purify: The Digestive System

Included today are excerpts from chapters 2, 3 and 7 of Cleanse and Purify Thyself by Richard Anderson. These chapters concern the functions of the digestive system, and the role of organic sodium (great source: celery) in maintaining proper digestion–a major (yet largely unknown) factor in overall health and longevity. You will also learn about the formation of mucoid plaque and its ramifications, and about the benefits of intestinal cleansing–which is one aspect of the results in a juice fast.

Understanding this information is crucial to your understanding of nutrition and health, and to your long-term well-being. Of all the reading that I have done over the years on the digestive system, Dr. Richard Anderson nails it most perfectly.

Probiotics: Superfriendly Bacteria

This is a new file for the Juice Feasting Program that I have been wanting to include for several years. There are over 500 species of helpful bacteria in your gut – and they do an immense amount of helpful work for you. Not only do they help you digest your food and protect the lining and environment of your intestinal tract, but they also play an intimate role in the production of neurotransmitters that deeply impact your mental states. If your digestive tract is out of balance, it can have a dramatic effect on your mind. Juice Feasting is designed to help restore that balance through cleansing and excellent foods to feed your gut. In concert with juicing and whole foods is taking supplemental probiotics – today’s file will go into detail on why this is so incredibly important. Once you review this information, you may very well want to include a 30-50 billion organism capsule of probiotics each day on your Juice Feast, and thereafter.

Also – ladies – don’t underestimate the astonishing power of probiotics for maintaining and restoring feminine health. We will return to that topic on Day 31: Women’s Health!

A Monument to Enemas

Monument-to-Enemas.jpg

MOSCOW (AP) — A monument to the enema, a procedure many people would rather not think about, has been unveiled at a spa in the southern Russian city of Zheleznovodsk.

The bronze syringe bulb, which weighs 800 pounds and is held by three angels, was unveiled at the Mashuk-Akva Term spa, the spa's director said Thursday.

"There is no kitsch or obscenity, it is a successful work of art," Alexander Kharchenko told The Associated Press. "An enema is almost a symbol of our region."

The Caucasus Mountains region is known for dozens of spas where enemas with water from mineral springs are routinely administered to treat digestive and other complaints.

Kharchenko, 50, said the monument cost $42,000 and was installed in a square in front of his spa on Wednesday. A banner declaring: "Let's beat constipation and sloppiness with enemas" — an allusion to a line from "The Twelve Chairs," a famous Soviet film comedy — was posted on one of the spa's walls. Sculptor Svetlana Avakina said she designed the 5-foot high monument with "irony and humor" and modeled the angels on those in works by Italian Renaissance painter Alessandro Botticelli.

"This device is eternal, it will never change," she told the AP. "We could promote this brand, turn it into a franchise with souvenirs and awards for medical doctors."

Dozens of monuments dedicated to characters from tall tales and popular jokes have been erected in post-Soviet Russia.

Enemas for Colon Cleansing

Also included in the downloads today are instructions for how to do an enema.

It is important to know that our body sometimes cannot expel the old toxic matter from the bowel as quickly as it is removing it from the rest of the body to the bowel. Using enemas in a prudent manner can help to relieve and/or eliminate cleansing reactions during a fast. Knowing how to do an enema, and the body’s response to it, is good knowledge for Juice Feasting, and for times when constipation or autointoxication has gotten us down (from less than optimum food).

While an enema isn’t the most glamorous thing to do–the health benefits you can derive from it are!

Please carefully read the attached information over the coming days–and refer back to it in the future. Your excellent health will rely on it.

You are doing great! We look forward to seeing you in The Green Room, as always.

A Delicious Juice: Spicy Skin Saver

This drink is like having a facial from the inside out. Radishes and watercress are especially rich in sulfur, which helps to build collagen, a nutrient that's necessary for elasticity. Grape seeds are full of essential fatty oils and antioxidants that protect the skin against free radical damage. And cucumbers keep you well hydrated, a must for good skin! Juice up the following:

+ Radish
+ Green Grapes
+ Watercress or Kale Leaves
+ Cucumber
+ Ginger

Cleanse and purify - the digestive system

by Richard Anderson

Following breathing, and the heart beating, the next most important physiological function our bodies perform is the maintaining of a balanced pH. Regulation of pH is essential because every enzyme system, cell, organ, and gland in the body is influenced by pH. Excluding accidents and genetic weakness, dis-ease often begins to occur after we have altered our normal pH balance and become deficient in minerals, especially organic electrolyte minerals —not minerals from rock, but minerals from organic matter (plants).

Even when a slight depletion of any of the electrolytes occurs, many of our organs and glands become seriously challenged, weakened, toxic, and sluggish, for only slight changes in pH from normal levels can cause extreme alterations in the rates of chemical reactions—inside and outside of our cells. Any depletion means that health is plummeting and healing is significantly inhibited until the depletion has been rectified. Depletion also means that acids are accumulating. And acids are harmful to the body. When people become too over-acid they may die in a coma, and when they become too over-alkaline they could die of tetany or convulsions. At a certain point between the two, we have health, but if the pH of our blood, of any organ, or of any cell moves toward one of these extremes, dysfunction and dis-ease are always the result.

Enemas

Learn to appreciate and enjoy enemas. Nothing short of Divine Intervention (also known as miracles) can come to your rescue faster to relieve you of headaches, constipation, pressure, various pains, gas and massive accumulations of toxic mucus, pus, and poisonous waste – which all contribute towards dis-ease.

Some people are downright afraid to take enemas. This is generally due to either embarrassment or lack of knowledge. Anything this good for you should not be embarrassing.

probiotics for balanced health

Bacteria have a reputation for causing disease, so the idea of tossing down a few billion a day for your health might seem — literally and figuratively — hard to swallow. But a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that you can treat and even prevent some illnesses with foods and supplements containing certain kinds of live bacteria – probiotics.

Self-dosing with bacteria isn’t as outlandish as it might seem. An estimated 100 trillion microorganisms representing more than 500 different species inhabit every normal, healthy bowel. These microorganisms (or microflora) generally don’t make us sick; most are helpful. Gut-dwelling bacteria keep pathogens (harmful microorganisms) in check, aid digestion and nutrient absorption, and contribute to immune function.

Online Articles

by Tim O’Shea

This highly recommended chapter has a few specific applications:

1. for those who have reached that certain crest between self-loathing and self esteem where they can no longer endure the condition of their body and are prepared to do whatever it takes to reverse the tide
2. for those who have begun a nutrition or supplement program with no results, or else may have reached a plateau in their progress.
3. for those with long term allergies which years of shots and pills have not cured
4. for those who suspect that they’re not eliminating normally
5. for those who have been diagnosed with one of the following dead-end labels:

Irritable Bowel Syndrome - Spastic Colon - Crohn’s Disease - Chronic Colitis - Leaky Gut Syndrome - Regional Ileitis - Esophageal Reflux - Malabsorption Syndrome - Candida albicans - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

This is not a discussion for the improvement of the above conditions. We’re talking about resolution: the return to normal operation of the systems. If the above apply to you, and you grasp the principles cited in the medical sources at the end of this chapter, your problems may well be over.

by Leo Galland, M.D.

Altered intestinal permeability is a key element in the pathogenesis of many different diseases. Hyperpermeability initiates a vicious cycle in which allergic sensitization, endotoxic immune activation, hepatic dysfunction, pancreatic insufficiency and malnutrition occur; each of these increases the leakiness of the small bowel. Effective treatment of the Leaky Gut Syndromes requires several components: avoidance of enterotoxic drugs and allergic foods, elimination of infection or bacterial overgrowth with antimicrobials and probiotics, and dietary supplementation with trophic nutrients.

by Mike Adams

Did you know that the health of your large intestine is reflected in the health of your skin? Your large intestine and skin are organs that interact with the environment. They both absorb and emit chemicals, water, and other metabolic products. The large intestine is the body’s largest internal organ; its purpose is to absorb food, nutrients and water. The function of the skin is to hold not only all of your other organs, tissues, capillaries and muscles in place, but also to allow your body to breathe. It is a respiration organ — it both inhales and exhales.

Great Books

cleanse and purify thyself

by Dr. Richard Anderson

I know that you have seen this book mentioned all over the place in these first days, but I can’t tell you how importantly formative this book can be in the evolutionary development of your nutritional understanding. Definitely make sure you have this book as part of your health library! – David Rainoshek, M.A.

toxemia explained

by John Tilden

John Tilden: WHAT more can be asked by any doctor or layman than a philosophy of the cause of disease that gives a perfect understanding of all the so-called diseases?

To know cause supplies even the layman with a dependable knowledge of how to avoid building disease, and how to cure. When people know how to avoid disease they know an immunization that immunizes rationally.

Dependable knowledge of what disease really is and its cause is man’s salvation; and when it can be had with no more effort than that required to read carefully and understandingly Toxemia Explained, there is little excuse for anyone, lay or professional, to live in ignorance of it.

Knowledge is power. Knowledge of how to have health gives greatest power.

Few people know anything about the cause of disease. To them this book is dedicated and the freedom from medical superstition it will bring them.
